The Jazz Kitchen at 5377 N. College Ave. has some special concerts next week.
The Frank Smith-Steve Weakley Trio will perform on Dec. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. There will be no cover charge.
The blend from this trio is called one of the uncovered gems in Indy. Guitarist Weakley, and his command over his expansive repertoire, the no nonsense swing from drummer Lawrence Clark are all held together by the ever-solid, bass powerhouse Smith.
The next night on Dec. 6, the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra will play beginning at 7 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge.
The special program will feature all of the most popular holiday music classics. The entire performance will consist of well-known sacred and secular Christmas tunes. All of the songs will be presented through world-class musical arrangements based on the very best of the big band repertoire.
In addition to performing new and rarely-heard seasonal big band arrangements, the orchestra will also recreate legendary Christmas arrangements as originally performed by the Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Stan Kenton Orchestras.
