INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts say they are aware the NFL has opened a gambling investigation into one of the team's players. A team spokesman also says the team will have no additional comment. The player has not been publicly identified. The confirmation comes after reports first leaked Monday and less than two months after the NFL suspended five players — including four from the Detroit Lions — for gambling policy violations. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Simon Gregersen struck out six of the 10 outs he recorded to close out Indiana State's 11-8 win over Iowa to win the Terre Haute Regional championship and earn a berth in the super regionals. Indiana State (44-15) knocked Iowa into the elimination round with a 7-4 win Saturday night and the Hawkeyes earned the rematch by out-lasting North Carolina 6-5 in 13 innings earlier Sunday.

DETROIT (AP) — Alex Palou started and finished first in the Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday, winning his second IndyCar race in less than a month and for the sixth time of his career. The Spaniard won the Indianapolis Grand Prix in May. He led 74 of 100 laps on Detroit's new street course and went ahead for the last time on lap 77. He stayed in front after Will Power made a move that didn't pan out as he made contact with Scott Dixon on lap 91. Palou pulled away in his Honda with five laps left and Power finished second in his Chevrolet.

Indiana Fever and No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft Aliyah Boston was named the league's Rookie of the Month for May. The announcement came on June 1. Boston's accolade makes her the second player in Indiana Fever history to receive the award (Natalie Achonwa, June 2015.)

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic got a triple-double in his NBA Finals debut, Jamal Murray scored 26 points and the Denver Nuggets had little trouble with the cold-shooting Miami Heat on the way to a 104-93 win in Game 1 of the title series on Thursday night. Jokic finished with 27 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who waited 47 years to make the finals and didn't disappoint. Aaron Gordon scored 16 and Michael Porter Jr. added 14 for Denver, which trailed for all of 34 seconds and eventually led by as many as 24. Bam Adebayo finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds for Miami, which shot 41 percent.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has appealed for more support for female athletes during a White House event celebrating Louisiana State's championship women's basketball team. The event once appeared in jeopardy after Biden's wife, Jill, suggested that the losing Iowa team be invited, too. Friday's ceremony was briefly halted when forward Sa'Myah Smith appeared to collapse on stage. The Bidens lavished praise on the LSU Tigers for their performance and the way they've helped advance women's sports. Neither one mentioned the uproar Jill Biden's earlier comments caused. Biden also welcomed the UConn men's championship basketball team to a White House celebration later Friday.
