INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence has received a five-year, $1.8 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in support of ICADV’s domestic violence prevention work throughout the state.

ICADV was one of only ten states awarded nationally because of the strong foundation in primary prevention initiatives, partnerships and strategy that the organization has built in the past years.

The Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership through Alliances, Focusing on Outcomes for Communities United with States (DELTA FOCUS) program was created because the CDC recognizes that intimate partner violence is a significant, but preventable, public health problem in the United States. “We are proud to receive this recognition of our domestic violence prevention programs,” said Laura Berry, executive director of ICADV. “It’s a statement of the CDC’s faith in our ability to expand our existing programs and create new ones focusing on this very important issue.”

With this grant, ICADV will work with Hands of Hope in Marion, Indiana and two statewide programs – Multi-Cultural Efforts to End Sexual Assault program (MESA) at Purdue University and MensWork.

The CDC made these funds available to promote the prevention of intimate partner violence. By emphasizing primary prevention, this program will support comprehensive and coordinated approaches to domestic violence prevention at the community and state levels. Said ICADV’s Berry, “When we create healthy relationships for ourselves and the people we care about, these relationships have a positive impact on the health and public safety of our communities.”

ICADV is a statewide organization that works to eliminate domestic violence through prevention programs, legislative advocacy, public awareness, advocate training and legal assistance.

Hands of Hope provides intervention and prevention services focusing on domestic violence, sexual violence and homelessness in the Indiana counties of Grant and Wabash.

MESA is a statewide program that focuses on the primary prevention of sexual violence in under-served and traditionally marginalized communities.

MensWork develops and supports male leadership to prevent all forms of sexual and domestic violence.
