Managed Health Services (MHS) is partnering with Purdue Sports and Murdock Elementary School for a back-to-school event in Lafayette, part of the Community Hoops program.
“Discover the Super Hero in You” Back-to-School Kickoff takes place Friday, July 31 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Murdock Park and Murdock Elementary School, located at 2100 Cason St. in Lafayette.
The event is free and open to the public. Activities include:
- Kids’ basketball clinic with Purdue alumnus and NBA Champion Brian Cardinal and friends (wear sports gear to participate!)
- Prizes — autographed basketballs, Purdue basketball tickets, water bottles, sunglasses and more!
- Backpack giveaways (while supplies last, and children must be accompanied by an adult)
- Face painting
- Healthy cooking demonstration with free tasting samples
“We are committed to transforming the health of the community one person at a time, and our partnership with Purdue Sports is a unique opportunity to continue that purpose,” said MHS President and CEO Kevin O’Toole. “This back-to-school event is part of our Community Hoops program with Purdue, and it will give attendees the chance to learn about healthy eating, get some prizes and have a lot of fun.”
Purdue Cardinal Community Hoops is a partnership between Purdue Trademark Licensing, Purdue Athletics (Purdue Sports Properties) and Boilermaker alumnus and NBA champion Brian Cardinal. It is Cardinal’s desire to give back to the community by focusing on restoring basketball courts on city playgrounds in Indiana. The Murdock Park project started in the spring of 2012 and included new backboards, lights, some seating and court resurfacing to reflect the Boilermaker and MHS partnership.
