Ivy Tech to open new site on airport property

The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) and Ivy Tech Community College announced a lease agreement under which Ivy Tech will begin its newest location, “Ivy Tech at IND Aerotropolis,” on property near the Indianapolis International Airport.

Ivy Tech will lease space in one of the buildings formerly occupied by ATA, with options to lease additional space as buildings become available.

The building contains 19,615 square feet and some renovations will be required to make the space more appropriate for classrooms and labs.

Current plans call for the building to have eight classrooms, a wet lab, two computer labs, and administrative space. The Ivy Tech facility will be the first tenant in the Logistics Center of Excellence, a key feature of the airport’s land-use plan to support Aerotropolis.

Ivy Tech will begin offering classes in spring 2012, starting with general education courses and followed by logistical and business courses in the

summer and fall of 2012.

An Aerotropolis is an “airport city” to maximize the ability of an airport to foster economic growth and infrastructure development throughout its surrounding region.

In addition to its core air transportation missions, Aerotropolis focuses on logistics and distribution hubs and its proximity to trucking and rail lines.

The airport’s Logistics Center of Excellence is a concept identified in its land-use study that can help match the skills of the future workforce to the specialized needs of Aerotropolis through a technology and research center complementary to adjacent logistics and transportation hubs. Ivy Tech at Aerotropolis will be a key component of this environment.
