Colt host food drive prior to season playoff game

Prior to kickoff of their Divisional Playoff Game on Saturday, Jan. 16, the Indianapolis Colts will partner with WISH-TV, MyINDY-TV and Gleaners Food Bank to host a “Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers” Food Drive.

From 6 – 8:15 p.m. volunteers will be stationed at the Colts Community Collection Stations, presented by Toyota, to collect non-perishable food items. Cash donations will also be accepted with all proceeds benefiting Gleaners Food Bank.

Individuals not attending the game can still “Help a Hoosier” by dropping off their donation at the WISH-TV studios located at 1950 N. Meridian St. downtown Indianapolis.

“We’re so grateful for the support from WISH-TV, MyINDY-TV, the Colts and their fans,” says Gleaners’ president and CEO Pamela Altmeyer. “The food and funds collected at the playoff game are needed now more than ever. Our sincerest thanks to everyone.”

This food drive is part of the ongoing “Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers” campaign that was started in March 2009 by the Indianapolis Colts and WISH-TV to help strengthen our community and empower Hoosiers to create change by engaging in random acts of kindness across the state of Indiana.

“People participating in the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers.org effort is another example of the passion and compassion that always seems to surface when fellow Hoosiers are in need,” said Tom Zupancic, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Indianapolis Colts. “In these difficult times extending a helping hand will allow us all to climb this mountain together.”

“Neighbors are still in need and Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers can help. Events like the food drive offer simple, effective ways we can all get involved,” added Jeff White, WISH-TV president and general manager. “WISH-TV’s commitment to our Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers initiative continues in 2010. We look forward to working with the Indianapolis Colts, our community partners and our viewers to make a difference in the lives of our fellow Hoosiers in need.”

Since launching the initiative, the Colts and WISH-TV have teamed up for numerous “Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers” events, including a launch event on Monument Circle, a statewide food drive, Thanksgiving event at Martin University and a recognition program to highlight local “heroes” who have helped other Hoosiers.
