Ex-Iowa player Kelly transferring to Indiana St.

More by this author

Former Iowa basketball player Jake Kelly has decided to transfer to Indiana State.

The 6-foot-6 swingman told the Tribune-Star of Terre Haute that he chose the Sycamores so he could be closer to home. Kelly went to high school near Terre Haute in Marshall, Ill., before playing his junior and senior years at Carmel High School near Indianapolis.

He averaged 11.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a sophomore for the Hawkeyes this season.

Kelly intends to apply for a hardship waiver from the NCAA because his mother, Julia, was killed in a plane crash off the Florida coast last June. If the waiver is granted, Kelly will not have to sit out next season.
