The life story of singer Lou Rawls is coming to the big screen with Isaiah Washington secured for the lead role, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Pathway Entertainment has acquired the script āThrough the Eyes of a Son,ā described as an uncensored take on the singer written by his son Lou Rawls Jr.
Born in Chicago in 1933, Rawls sang in a range of styles that included blues, soul, funk and R&B, selling millions of albums and earning legions of fans, as well as the accolades of Frank Sinatra.
But according to the script, he had a traumatic personal life, enduring a poverty-stricken childhood and, in adulthood, intense marital strife. Rawls, who died in 2006, also had a side career in Hollywood, lending his voice to such cartoons as āGarfieldā and āHey Arnold!ā and making appearances in movies like āBlues Brothers 2000.ā
Washington, best known for his role on āGreyās Anatomy,ā will next be seen in āHurricane Season,ā the story of a New Orleans basketball team after Hurricane Katrina.
It was reported this week that Washington and his wife, Jenisa, were recently served with a ā3-day notice to pay rent or quitā from the landlord of their $3.5 million Los Angeles home. According to Radar Online, the couple is five months behind in rental payments, totaling $100,000.
