Indianapolis-based organization will host African leaders for professional development and leadership programming.
The U.S. Department of State has selected the Dr. Toby Malichi Institute for Global Impact as the Indianapolis host organization for the 2026 Mandela Washington Fellows Professional Development Experience. The program is scheduled for Oct. 5 through Nov. 11 in Indianapolis.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). It brings young leaders from across Africa to the United States for executive leadership training, professional development and collaboration.
As the Indianapolis host organization, the Dr. Toby Malichi Institute for Global Impact will host its first cohort of Mandela Washington Fellows. The fellows will engage with Indiana business, civic, academic and government leaders and participate in professional development activities and collaborative initiatives focused on trade, economic diplomacy, global development and shared prosperity.

“This extraordinary recognition affirms our steadfast commitment to fostering global leadership, advancing economic diplomacy, and creating meaningful social and entrepreneurial impact throughout Africa,” said Toby Malichi, Hon.D.Bus., founder, CEO and global board chair. “We look forward to highlighting the strength of Indiana’s global ecosystem while supporting and empowering Africa’s next generation of visionary leaders and changemakers.”
