Holiday crash reduction efforts

Marion County law enforcement officers will conduct special enforcement efforts on Marion County roadways throughout this Thanksgiving holiday season.

The Thanksgiving holiday period is one of the most deadly and heavily traveled times of the year.

During the 2010 Thanksgiving holiday season in Marion County there were 492 collisions reported with 124 injuries.

During the 2010 Thanksgiving holiday season, three persons were killed as a result of a motor vehicle crashes in Marion County.

The Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership will deploy officers to enforce DUI laws and moving violations such as speeding, following too closely, disregarding automatic signals, failure to signal lane changes and other dangerous driving behaviors.

Officers will be especially on the look for motorists that commit more then one moving violation that could indicate “aggressive driving.”
