Democrat Melina Kennedy announced on Oct. 17 that her campaign for mayor has raised more than $1.5 million in the most recent reporting period, April 9 through Oct.14.
Her campaign said Kennedy’s fundraising totals illustrate the wide and deep support her campaign has from voters throughout Indianapolis. The $1.5 million raised is the most ever raised by a non-incumbent in an Indianapolis mayoral race, the campaign reported.
“The support for Melina has been incredible,” campaign manager Nick Buis said. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received from residents in all parts of the city. Melina is committed to making Indianapolis a city where all families and children have the opportunity to succeed. She’s put forth a vision to make Indianapolis a quality of life capital and has a plan to improve educational outcomes, fight crime and create jobs. The campaign is gaining momentum with each day and because of this we expect the mayor to continue his desperate negative attacks against Melina. We are appreciative of the widespread support of Melina and this support will allow Melina to communicate her message broadly over the final weeks of the campaign.”
