The Harrison Center’s monthly Greatriarch Gathering is back this April.
Friends, family and Community members are invited to the Harrison Center on April 11, 2024, to share food, fellowship and community updates. The gathering will feature a special host and the latest news about the Polklore Micro-Museum project.
During each Greatriarch Gathering, guests are invited to be a part of the neighborhood’s history both through the Micro-Museum and Storytelling Drawing sessions.
The Harrison Center is currently collecting stories and artifacts for the Polklore Micro-Museum project, which “centers African American perspectives from the historic Martindale area.” Long-term residents are invited to film short interviews for the Micro Museum. Interested participants should avoid green and blue clothing as the videos are shot on a green screen.
Storytelling Drawing Sessions — which take place each Thursday from 1:30-3 p.m. in Sky Gallery — will also take place during the April Greatriarch Gathering. Guests are free to share their stories with a small group of artists during a 90-minute session to help strengthen both technical and listening skills. Memories and mementos are then added to the Polklore Micro-Museum project where artists can respond to the story in real time.
During these sessions, artists are welcome to use whichever medium they prefer, but must bring their own supplies. The 2024 series is facilitated by Indy-based artist and Placemaking Fellow Cierra Johnson. For more information, visit harrisoncenter.org/drawing-sessions.
