Indiana basketball fans are in for a treat as the Indiana State Fair celebrates excellent high school basketball teams over the years. The Purdue Extension Auditorium, located at Gate 12 on the north side of the Fairgrounds next to Hoopfest, will host a day-long celebration of greatness on and off the court on Aug. 16.
The event will feature panel discussions with some of Indiana’s most legendary high school basketball teams. A moderator will be on hand to ask questions of the players as well. The event promises to be a day to remember for all who attend.
The Great High School Teams Panel Discussion lineup includes the ’68-’69 Indianapolis George Washington team, featuring Steve Downing, Wayne Pack, Ken Parks and Steve Stanfield and moderated by Bill Benner at 11 a.m.
The ’86-’87 Marion Team will be represented by Jay Edwards, Lyndon Jones and Kyle Persinger and moderated by Jim Brunner at 1 p.m.
At 3 p.m., the ’02-’03 Pike Team, featuring Justin Cage, Robert Vaden, David Barlow and Sydney McDaniel and moderated by Bob Lovell, will take the stage.
The ’05-’06 Lawrence North Team, coached by Jack Keefer and featuring Greg Oden, Stephan Van Treese and Qadr Owens, will be moderated by Chris May at 5 p.m.
Finally, the ’08-’09 Ben Davis Girls Team, coached by Stan Benge and featuring Bria Goss, DeAirra Goss and Dee Dee Williams, will be moderated by Greg Rakestraw at 6:30 PM.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear from some of Indiana’s most outstanding high school basketball players.
