LaKoya Gardner has been promoted to director of the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Prior to her promotion, Gardner served as director of programs and associate director of development for four years. During her time, the institute has advanced their practices in equity and philanthropy through initiatives and partnerships.
“LaKoya has played a key role in positioning the Mays Institute as a preferred provider of information and fundraising training for diverse audiences and those who seek to engage them,” said Amir Pasic, the Eugene R. Tempel Dean of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. “Having collaborated effectively with Associate Dean Una Osili and the Mays Council to advance the institute, we anticipate a bright future for the institute and its leadership role in the field.”
The institute provides knowledge, education and training to foster a greater understanding of underserved communities and how programming and actions can be better curated to advance the field.
“LaKoya has a wonderful ability to raise awareness of philanthropy in all its forms, build valuable partnerships, and grow the opportunities the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy offers,” said Dr. Rose Mays, founder of the institute and member of the school’s board of visitors. “In this new role, her expertise and strong, positive leadership will take the institute to the next level and position it to have even more meaningful impact.”
Prior to joining the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Gardner served in leadership roles at Ivy Tech Community College. During her time there, she raised more than $14.7 million in four years for new facilities, endowments and programs.
