A new coworking space for businesses without a brick-and-mortar location celebrated its grand opening May 20.

COHatch is housed in the former Trinity Church in Broad Ripple. Located at 6151 Central Ave., the renovated space is over 18,000 square feet and includes 38 private offices and 115 coworking seats, vending machines, a refrigerator and microwave. In addition to amenities found in most offices, COHatch offers a game room and theater for those who want to take a midday break and recharge. And if you’ve been itching to launch a podcast, COHatch has a podcast room as well. The only remnants of the church that remain are the stained-glass windows and the congregation which gathers on Sundays.

COHatch, which also has a location in Noblesville as well as Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, specializes in renovating old or abandoned buildings, Grerayle Walton, Indy market leader of COHatch, said.

COHatch is open to community members, nonprofits, start-ups and entrepreneurs. Business owners also can rent space for company retreats or conferences, and the facility is available to rent for weddings and other events. Rental for coworking space starts at $59 a month.

Part of the COHatch mission to help minority-owned businesses launch successfully and stay in business, which is why the GIVE Scholarship program was created. GIVE recipients will receive free access to the coworking space.

Rion Robinson, director of culture and operations at COHatch, believes this scholarship will allow Black owned start-ups the opportunity to get their business off the ground in an accepting environment.

“We never had a space to be ourselves,” Robinson said. “COHatch allows us to embrace our experiences and empower each other. Now we have an opportunity for us to create.”

COHatch plans to add 10 more locations throughout Indianapolis within the next five years, with a location in Zionsville coming next.
