The Indianapolis Recorder is showcasing the diversity of Indy’s religious community through a series of stories.
This week’s segment highlights Iglesia Casa de Restauración, a local Christian church founded by Ulises and Madelyn Himely.
Driven by the desire to serve the Spanish-speaking community in Indianapolis, the church gives its members a place to connect to Jesus and build community through sermons, baptisms, communions and more.
Iglesia Casa de Restauración, true to its name, is a house of restoration, a reputation that lead pastor and co-founder Ulises Himely said is known.
“Our faith community is best known as a church that restores people socially, and spiritually,” said Himely.
Part of restoration is support, and at Iglesia Casa de Restauración, supporting church members is of the utmost importance to the church.
“Our church helps people who are new to Indiana from different parts of Latin America, by providing them with the necessary information and resources they need to be successful in our community,” said Himely.
Outside of resources, the church also provides counseling services, promotes mental health awareness, and offers mental health awareness training.
In the church’s’ sermons, religious teachings emphasizing God and God’s love are told.
The Children’s ministry is no exception. At Iglesia Casa de Restauración, the ministry is infused with culture.
“Our Children’s Ministry shares cultural traditions through art, music, and Faith,” Himely said.
Currently, services are only in Spanish, but bilingual services are in the works.
In the meantime, Himely and the rest of Iglesia Casa de Restauración hope to share God’s love with the community.
“We would like people to know that we are a faith-based community that loves people from all walks of life. We believe that love covers all sins through the love of Jesus Christ,” Himely said.
