Since the release of his debut single “Cupid Shuffle” artist Cupid has captivated fans by his smooth voice and dance songs with his latest singles such as “Are You Ready?” “Happy Dance” and “The Love Slide.”
According to Cupid, “I’m Cupid. I’m the guy that comes on the stage and yells, screams, sings, performs and sweats. I’m the guy that brings the fun to kill the monotony of all the bad stuff that’s going on these days.”
The Lafayette, La. native recently spoke with the Indianapolis Recorder about his upcoming projects, and his performance at the Teen Bling concert during the Indiana Black Expo (IBE) Summer Celebration.
Recorder: What is it like to know that people still love the “Cupid Shuffle” which was your first single out and it is played at many wedding receptions and parties all over the nation?
Cupid: People don’t fully appreciate their blessings all the way. And I got the opportunity to come out with a song that will probably never go away, so I am truly blessed that it is still loved.
When you first came on the music scene, where you trying to sing and dance?
I didn’t want to be the next Chris Brown, Omarion or Usher, but all I wanted to do was make music and create a sound nobody has ever heard.
What was the concept for your new music singles out now?
My brain is only so big and I only have so many ideas, so I worked with a new team who helped me come out with the new stuff out now. I’m very open when it comes to working with new people, because they always help. I just wanted to create something where people can groove to.
What was your experience like being in Indianapolis for IBE?
I’ve been to the Indiana Black Expo, and the Circle City Classic before and I find myself marking it on my calendar. I’m from way down south, so to come visit my family in the north is a good thing.
What did you get into while you were in town?
Partying and interacting with the other celebrities who were in town. I also got the chance to interact with the fans as well. It’s just been a really good time, and no matter if you are a celebrity or a normal citizen, we are equal so I think good for everybody to interact together because at the end of the day, we are all the same.
Were you looking forward to performing at Teen Bling?
Very much. I’ve got a new song out called the “Love Slide” and we wanted to teach everybody that new dance.
How do you interact with your fans when your not performing?
I use Facebook, and Twitter. My names on both sites are NewCupid. I work my Facebook from my cell phone, so if anybody adds me on there right now, I will accept and answer any question.
