The Ultimate in fine dining

I’ve had my eye on Ocean Prime ever since I noticed the restaurant was being built. I quickly Googled it and knew Indianapolis was in for a real treat.

Actually, Ocean Prime exceeded my expectations. On their opening day, I was treated to an experience at this super swanky eatery that makes some of Indianapolis’ most upscale restaurants look like greasy spoon diners.

As the hostess led me to my table, I noticed how the simple touches and décor produced an upscale, nautical feel to the “modern American supper club.”

The service and menu complemented the atmosphere.

Looking through their leather-bound menus, I realized, “What on earth am I going to pick? Everything sounds good.”

I started with one of Ocean Prime’s signature cocktails – the Black Orchid. My primary server, Brandon, placed the order and returned with my shaken martini. Complete with a frozen orchid, this is arguably the BEST martini I have ever had.

Clad in his crisp, white jacket, he then proceeded to explain the menu. The food that’s listed sounded delicious, but almost every item had more than meets the eye. Brandon explained the preparation, ingredients and options for each section on the menu.

I listened attentively and decided to order the signature appetizer: the jumbo lump crab cake with sweet corn cream.

Brandon left my table with my request, and I perused the menu noticing how special this restaurant is and what its presence will do for the Indianapolis dining scene – enhance it.

For example, the raw bar had five awesome selections, including oysters on the half shell; and decadent appetizers such as white truffle caviar deviled eggs, and surf and turf.

Their salads are quite significant as well.

Shortly, Brandon arrives with my crab cakes and instructs me to enjoy. Don’t you worry, Brandon. I did.

The crab cake had an interesting, spicy flavor and was comprised of way more crab than cake. The sweet corn relish that accompanied the crab cake was the perfect complement to the flavors of the seafood dish.

On to the high point of the meal – the main course.

That night I was in the mood for something simple so I asked Brandon to bring me a medium well filet mignon with no “accessories” (steak toppings like Oscar style or black truffle butter), and a side of creamed spinach with bacon.

On my next visit to Ocean Prime, I may order the shrimp linguine, pork porterhouse or the sea scallops.

Accompanied by another server holding my dish, Brandon presents my dinner. The herbed butter on top of my filet mignon gave the meat an extra boost of flavor and the bacon and three cheeses in my spinach added a smoky, rich texture.

The food was excellent, but I definitely saved room for dessert. I decided to check out the 10-layer carrot cake.

Ocean Prime is the ultimate upscale restaurant serving the best seafood and steaks. This new eatery is already the talk of the town, so you’d better make a reservation today. Certain items are pricey, but worth every penny.

The service is beyond excellent and the food is of the utmost quality. Ocean Prime has certainly set the standard in what fine dining is all about.
