Indiana Black Expo announces new chief operating officer

Indiana Black Expo, Inc. announced that Perry G. Hines has joined the organization as its Chief Operating Officer.

As COO, Hines will manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations, including fiscal management, procurement, personnel, and human resources operations. He will also be responsible for the overall development and refinement of performance management, quality control, and accountability systems to ensure that IBE ā€˜s mission, goals, and objectives are accomplished.

Hinesā€™ extensive and varied background in marketing, strategic planning and operations spans global Fortune 500 companies and the nonprofit arena. Hines served as the former senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Irwin Mortgage Corporation, Swiss Reinsurance Corporation, Lincoln National Reinsurance Corporation and American States Financial Corporation that was later acquired by Seattle-based Safeco. More recently, Hines served as president of Truth @ Work, a non-profit membership-based organization.

ā€œI am immensely excited that we were able to attract and hire Perry as he fills such a critical role in our organization,ā€ said Tanya Bell, IBE president and chief executive officer of IBE. ā€œPerryā€™s strong business acumen and passion to utilize his expertise, gifts and talents to help IBE serve our community will give us an added dimension as we strive to enhance the quality of our programs and events, grow our membership, donor and sponsorship base, and deliver premium customer service to our partners and constituents.ā€

ā€œI am honored to join IBE and hope I can, in some small way, contribute to what is already a premiere organization,ā€ added Hines.

Hines serves on the boards of several local and national organizations including the Indianapolis Urban League, where he is the current chairman; University of Minnesotaā€™s Carlson School of Business Alumni Advisory Board; Western Kentucky University Presidentā€™s Advisory Board; Boy Scouts of America Crossroads Region; Indiana Convention & Visitors Bureauā€™s Music Crossroads Initiative Advisory Board; Heartland Film Festival; and Central Indiana Youth for Christ.

Hines has an MBA from the University of Minnesota and a bachelorā€™s degree from Western Kentucky University. He also attended Indiana University School of Law. Hines will begin his duties on Feb. 1.
