Food truck frenzy

More by this author

Leinenkugel’s Presents: First Friday Food Truck Festival (FFFTF) is a food lover’s paradise.

On June 6 at 5 p.m., visitors will have more than 30 food trucks to grab some grub from and beer from Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. in the Old National Centre’s parking lot.

Food trucks are locally owned restaurants on wheels. Often they have websites or Facebook pages, where the food truck will be serving food at a particular hour.

This is a great way to contribute to small businesses while eating a great dinner.

While chowing down, visitors can also listen to live entertainment from DJ OhBeOne and singer/songwriter Brett Wiscons.

There will be a variety of food trucks from which to make a selection.

The Indianapolis Recorder has compiled the following list of a sampling of what will be offered:

Chef Dan’s Southern Comfort

Owned by Chef Daniel Carter and Allison Luthe Carter, Chef Dan’s Southern Comfort serves classic home-style food. The menu changes daily, but you can expect dishes like a Southern fried chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwiches, crawfish etouffee and catfish dinners. Add their homemade Southern sweet tea to wash your food down.

Taste of the Caribbean

Bringing the Caribbean to Indianapolis, Taste of the Caribbean serves Jamaican-style food. Its menu also changes daily, but you can expect food like jerk chicken, coconut chicken, crab cakes and crawfish. Its head chef is Peta-Gay, who is from Jamaica and is giving away “Caribbean vacations one place at a time!”

Nacho Mama’s Food Truck

Nacho Mama’s Food Truck serves a variety of nacho dishes. Its ultimate nachos feature blue tortilla chips covered in Spanish rice, queso blanco, chipotle sour cream and fresh salsa. If nachos are not for you, they also serve other Spanish-style dishes like walking tacos and rice bowls with toppings.

Soul Sista on the Move

Soul Sista on the Move brings soul food to you. Choose from a variety of entrées that include fried pork chops, chicken wings and fish. Eat them with classic side dishes like mac and cheese and sweet potatoes, and finish your meal with peach cobbler.

The Big Cheeze

The Bloomington-based Big Cheeze serves grilled cheese sandwiches for all. Not only serving a basic grilled cheese sandwich (which they call the wimpy), the Big Cheeze offers specialty grilled cheese sandwiches like the Mac Daddy, which features mac and cheese, or the King Curtis, which features cheddar cheese with bacon.

Sweet Jeanius

If you have a sweet tooth, treat it to Sweet Jeanius. The food truck from Kokomo specializes in desserts. Try one of their desserts like bread pudding, cobblers, cookies and gourmet cupcakes.

Nicey Treat

After finishing your main course, cool off with a popsicle from Nicey Treat. Made with natural ingredients, it offers fun flavors like an Arnold P., pink lemonade, avocado, mango ginger and Not-So-Hot Chocolate.
