Bru Burger Bar: Real. Good. Burgers.

More by this author

The average American eats over 100 hamburgers per year. If you’re going to chow on that many burgers, make sure they are really good. And thanks to BRU Burger Bar that opened on Mass Ave, we now have a place to eat awesome burgers garnished with high quality and style.

From the folks that brought you other restaurants such as Mesh on Mass Ave and Charbonos, comes BRU Burger Bar, a restaurant devoted to the classic hamburger.

“It was a niche that hadn’t been dealt with in this city – doing everyday food in an elevated style and providing that food with service beyond just being a bar,” said Jonathan Feldhaus, general manager of BRU.

Creating a burger is not difficult, but since burgers and beer are their specialty, no short cuts have been taken when creating this custom menu. Instead of your typical, boring burger, the folks at BRU have created a super flavorful, specially ground meat burger made from a blend of tri-tip sirloin, chuck and brisket from Creekstone Farms.

Cheeses used are sans plastic wrap and are of high quality and they even pepper their own bacon. Some BRU burgers have ketchup, mustard and mayo, but BRU also makes their own aiolis, sauces and chutneys to add extra flavor to hamburgers.

Talk about attention to detail!

Feldhaus said BRU Burger Bar has been open for three months and has already gained a significant following – locally and nationally. The most ordered item is the BRU Burger made with Taleggio cheese, bacon, tomato jam, porter braised onion, chopped lettuce and mayo.

Other delicious Chef Burgers include the Ground Turkey Burger with carrot ginger slaw, peach compote and curried mayo on a multigrain bun; the Blazing Saddles with habanero cheese, roasted jalapenos, and chipotle remoulade; and the Provencal with basil aioli, red onion, herbed goat cheese and marinated Portobello mushroom.

BRU does serve some other fancy burgers, but they also take care of the classics such as The Beginning, a classic burger; the Patty Melt with 1,000 island, porter braised onions and American cheese on rye; the classic bacon cheeseburger with four slices of thick cut bacon; and the Mushroom and Swiss with marinated mushrooms, Swiss and Salisbury sauce.

For those not in the mood for moo, BRU does have a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches and salads.

Arguably the best part about BRU Burger Bar is that this creatively tasty food is super affordable. The most expensive food item on the menu is $11.

Being that they’re also a bar, BRU offers a complete beer menu; wine; and specialty cocktails. Try The Scottish Rite with Compass Box Orangerie, Allspice Dram, grenadine, lemon juice and apple cider; or the Dark & Stormy with Cruzan Blackstrap rum, ginger beer and lime juice.

Bru Burger Bar is an upscale restaurant and bar that I’m sure is going to be very popular for a long time. It’s perfect for a date, but has a casual feel that’s great for a girls or guys night out. It’s Mass Ave location is also a prime spot for folks checking out the sights and sounds of this cultural district.

The next time you have a hankering for a burger, make your meal count by having a real hamburger at BRU Burger Bar.
