INDIANAPOLIS (June 30, 2010) – When seniors line up for the mid-day meal on July 7 at the Indianapolis Senior Center, one of them will be eating the symbolic 16 millionth meal provided by CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions. Serving the meal will be WNBA All-Star and Olympic Gold Medalist Tamika Catchings, teammate and Purdue University graduate Katie Douglas, and Coach Lin Dunn, of the Indiana Fever. *
CICOA’s Meals & More program now serves a half-million meals annually to low-income or at-risk seniors and people living with disabilities at neighborhood sites and through home-delivery – more than 1,900 meals per day. The program also provides individual nutrition assessment and counseling, group and individual nutrition education, and outreach.
The celebration event recognizes not only a significant milestone for CICOA, but also the meaningful contributions of community leaders, partners, donors and volunteers. The Indianapolis Senior Center was one of four original sites to host meals when the program first began in 1973.
