The Departments of Health and Human Services and Justice have launched two new Web sites to help Medicare beneficiaries prevent medical identity theft and fraud.
The sites, for instance, remind beneficiaries to beware of offers of free medical equipment, services or other goods in exchange for their Medicare identification number. Beneficiaries also should regularly review their Medicare summary notices, explanation of benefits statements and medical bills for suspicious charges and report problems.
The new sites, which include printable brochures, are at stopmedicarefraud.gov and oig.hhs.gov/fraud/idtheft.
