A central Indiana man has pleaded guilty to charges he fatally stabbed his estranged wife with a steak knife while their two daughters slept beside her.

The guilty plea made in a Hendricks County court Thursday by 41-year-old Joseph L. Warnock of Brownsburg was part of an agreement with prosecutors that calls for him to be sentenced to 55 years in prison.

Warnock was accused of killing 38-year-old Angela Warnock two days after she filed for divorce. Authorities said their daughters, ages 8 and 12 at the time, were not injured during the June 21 attack in the western Indianapolis suburb of Brownsburg.

Warnock was arrested the following day after a manhunt.

His sentencing hearing was scheduled for Oct. 9.
