The ladies of the Iota Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. recently celebrated Military Appreciation Week and Operation Homefront at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, 1481 W. 10th St. Members provided healthy snacks to patients and lift their spirits by thanking them for their service with thank you cards and metal flag pins.
Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors. Members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. were challenged to donate a minimum of $11.11 toward this fundraising initiative. The amount is significant to the date and time of the first commemoration of Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War I. Armistice Day later became known as Veterans Day.
Founded in 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is a national organization with local undergraduate and graduate chapters around the world. Locally, the Iota Zeta Chapter was founded in 1931.
The organization’s national and local programs include the endowment of its National Education Foundation, community outreach services and support of multiple affiliate organizations.
Members of Zeta chapters across the world, including youth and adult auxiliary groups, consistently donate countless numbers of hours of voluntary service to educate the public, assist youth, provide scholarships, support organized charities and promote legislation for social and civic change.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s founding principles are “Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood.”
