IMPD releases statement on shooting death of Virginia journalists

During a live broadcast Wednesday morning in Moneta, Virginia, a gunman (late identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, also known as Bryce Williams) opened fire on WBDJ7 reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward. The two dies as a result of their injuries. A third person, Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce was injured in the shooting. Gardner had surgery and is now recovering. The gunman, later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

IMPD Chief, Rick Hite released this statement to the media: 

“Our prayers go to all who go out in the field to report news in our communities. We recognize that we all are subject to the challenges of mental heath and violence in our society ..for no one is exempt!” said Chief Rick Hite. “Please know our law enforcement family are appreciative of your work and join with you in mourning the loss of the WBDJ7 TV crew.”
