‘Ebony Footprints’ to have two performances

Praise Stage Productions Theatre Company will present “Ebony Footprints in the Sands of Time” on April 16 at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St., (north side entrance – lower level).

There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. with tickets at $10 and an evening performance at 6 p.m. with tickets at $12.

With African drums, dance, music and historical vignettes, “Ebony Footprints” comes to the stage in a rousing performance of history – taking the audience from the “motherland” to “this otherland.”

Praise Stage Productions Theatre Company is an outreach ministry of Barnes United Methodist Church.

Sade at Conseco

New history of Indy library

A new book that tells the story of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s evolution from its origin in 1873 and its role in the educational and cultural life of Indianapolis will be unveiled on April 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St.

Stacks: A History of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library is a work commissioned by the Library Foundation and written by S.L. Berry, a former staff writer for The Indianapolis Star who specialized in covering the visual and literary arts.

The public is invited to the unveiling which will include remarks from the author and library officials. Book sales and autographing by the author will occur from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Stacks will be available for purchase for $25.

Following the event, the book can be purchased through the Library Foundation at (317) 275-4700.

Indians home games to be televised

Indianapolis Indians fans unable to make it to Victory Field will have the luxury of viewing games on local cable television this season.

The Indians will televise all 72 home games on Comcast and Bright House Networks on digital channel 81 on both networks.

Howard Kellman, who is in his 36th year as radio play-by-play “Voice of the Tribe,” and Scott McCauley, who is in his sixth season with the Indians broadcast team, will call the action as a part of a simulcast with WNDE-1260, the radio home of Indians baseball.

3 from Indiana named to all-America basketball team

Parade magazine announced its annual All-America High School Boys Basketball Team in a recent issue. And three players from Indiana made the list.

Cody Zeller, a 6’11” forward/center from Washington High in Washington, has been named to the second team. Zeller is committed to Indiana.

Branden Dawson, a 6’7″ forward from Wallace High in Gary, has been named to the third team. Dawson is committed to Michigan State.

Marquis Teague, a 6’2″ guard from Pike High in Indianapolis, has been named to the fourth team. Teague is committed to Kentucky.

Started in 1957, the Parade team is the longest running All-America high school basketball team in the country.

Photography exhibit at Garfield Park

The 5th Annual “Through the Lens” photography exhibit sponsored by the Indiana Photographic Society in partnership with Indy Parks’ Garfield Park Arts Center will showcase more than 75 artistic interpretations as seen “Through the Lens” of the camera.

The free exhibit will offer displays of digital and film formats in black and white plus color and feature techniques such as infrared and high dynamic range. The works of art will be shown at the GPAC April 9 to May 29. The opening reception will be April 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.
