What’s in your garden

Considering the April showers, we should receive some beautiful May flowers, right? However, I’d like for us to give consideration to the question — what’s in your garden?

Some of us have experienced drought in some areas of our lives, where it seemed like nothing was happening. There was no breakthrough, and there were no opportunities. But then there began to be sprinkles of hope and possibility. After the sprinkles of hope came the actual rain showers, and now we await the May flowers. Still, I ask, do you know what’s in your garden?

It reminds me of the Capital One question, “What’s in your wallet?”

The only way to know what’s in your garden is if you are aware of the seeds you’ve sown.

We are ever so quick to speak of increase here and how we’re waiting for the abundance of harvest (fill in the blank) there. Yet are we really aware of the kind of harvest that is going to come up? The kind of harvest that comes up is based on the seeds we’ve sown. What seeds have you sown? Have you sown seeds of peace or chaos? Of wisdom or worry? Of courage or paralyzing fear? Galatians 6:7 tells us in simplest terms, you reap what you sow.. Have you considered that your seeds include your words, time, gifts, talents, skills, thoughts, and even your anointing? How incredible is that?

Let’s go a little further. Maybe it’s not even about the seeds you’ve sown, but the environment of the soil. What kind of soil is surrounding your seed? In Luke 8:4-8, Jesus tells the parable of the sower. As the sower sowed seed, some fell by the wayside and was trampled. It never made it to the soil. Some fell on rock and withered because they lacked moisture. Some fell among thorns and were choked out.

Are your seeds planted in soil that will allow for the growth of the harvest you’ve been praying for? Or will it wither away? The environment of the seed is even more important than the seed itself. Is your seed in a supportive, thriving environment or one of rejection and destruction?

The seed is sown. The environment is right. Now the garden has to be tended.

What waters your seed? Prayer and faith water your seed. But so can worry and doubt.

We have the elemental potential for a great garden. Yet, we have to be mindful of the seeds we are sowing and the ground, by way of the environment we are sowing them into. We have to be mindful of what we are using to water our seeds. It all matters and adds up to the garden that will result.

What’s in your garden? I hope that in this upcoming season you find that you really do have an abundant harvest of the goodness and favor of God. I also hope we take heed to tend our gardens well.
