A proposed arts and cultural development on the city’s northwest side is hosting a public kickoff event this weekend.

The Crooked Creek Cultural Campus is inviting the community to learn more about the KMM Foundation’s “bold new vision for arts, culture and community” during its open-house kickoff, according to a press release. The event is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on April 25 at Sycamore School, 1750 W. 64th St. Admission is free.

“The Crooked Creek Cultural Campus represents a need for a dedicated arts space in the community,” Kerry Michael Manders, founder of the KMM Foundation, said in a statement. “This event allows residents to learn more and get involved.”

The nonprofit initiative plans to develop a multi-disciplinary arts campus on an 8-acre site near 62nd Street and Michigan Road. Proposed features include a 200-seat theater, outdoor amphitheater, recording studio, art gallery and space for visual arts, dance and music education.

The event will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the project and provide input during its early stages, according to a press release. Attendees may arrive at any time during the open house.

The program will include brief presentations every 20 minutes outlining the campus vision, arts programming and partnership opportunities. Student and local artist performances and exhibits will also be featured. A final presentation is scheduled for 3 p.m., with site plans and architectural renderings on display.

The organization is in its fundraising phase, seeking support for land acquisition, design and initial programming. Organizers aim to raise $1.5 million for the first phase and are encouraging community members to volunteer, partner or donate.

The Crooked Creek Cultural Campus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on developing a permanent arts facility in Indianapolis. For more information, visit crookedcreekculturalcampus.org.
