Indianapolis community leaders and national civic advocates will host “Our Vote, Our Voice: An Emergency Briefing,” a public forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 18, at Crossroads AME Church, 4602 N. College Ave.
The forum will feature discussions focused on voting rights, redistricting, civic engagement, public policy impacts and ways residents can become more involved in local, state and national conversations shaping their communities.
“Our communities cannot afford to be disengaged or uninformed during this moment,” said RaeVen Ridgell, a political consultant and public policy expert. “This is not just about politics. It is about ensuring people understand how decisions being made today can directly impact their voice, their communities, and their future.”
Attendees must register online in advance.
According to the event organizers, the forum is intended to help residents better understand what is happening nationally and locally, and how communities can stay informed and engaged in the democratic process.
Community leaders such as Arielle Brandy of Indiana Voices, Susan Hall Dotson of the Indiana Historical Society and Damien Conners of the Kettering Foundation are expected to attend.
The event comes amid growing concerns nationwide over court decisions, state legislative actions impacting voting access and renewed efforts around mid-decade redistricting that critics say could reshape political representation outside of the traditional census cycle.
