For the past two years, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission has held the Student Essay Contest in conjunction with the Indianapolis Indians. The contest asks for all Indiana elementary school students to submit an essay on a chosen prompt. This year, Michelle Zheng, sixth grader from Center Grove Middle School in Greenwood, Indiana, was selected as the winner.
Following is Zheng’s essay addressing the question, “Why is it important for all children to get a quality education?”
If you think education isn’t important, then you’re wrong. Every single person in the world needs education. It helps build a better and brighter future, prepares you for life and expands your knowledge. Some people aren’t as fortunate as you and long to get education. Every child needs quality education. There are no excuses for someone not to get education. Everyone needs education, and that is a fact that can’t be changed.
First of all, who doesn’t want to have a better and brighter future? You will need to know so much before life ends. With education, you can get a good job, graduate college and put yourself in front of others. You will know so much! It’s not just learning the ABCs, how to add fractions and knowing that George Washington was the first president. It is more about being the best version of you. You can be the best version of you if you have the key to knowledge… education.
The next important thing about education is that it prepares you for the rest of your life. Learn as much as possible. You will need to know a huge amount of information. You will be ready for all challenges. You will be prepared for the next step. You will be smart and successful. With quality education, you can have all of it.
There are many reasons why all children should get quality education. Another one of the most important reasons is just to expand your knowledge. The more you know, the smarter you grow. Therefore, there is no such thing as a useless fact. All facts need to be known. The more you know, the more your brain improves. Everyone has to get education. There are no excuses. Education is one of the most important things in the universe. You can’t live without it.
We all want education. We all need education. It prepares us for life, expands our knowledge and gives us a better and brighter future. It is a gift to have the knowledge within us. Thirty years from now, it wouldn’t matter what kind of shoes you wore or what your weight was. What will matter is what you learned and how you used the knowledge.
