Three years after police seized them from a drug dealer, a collection of 28 classic and antique cars are going up for auction.
Bidding starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Indiana Live! Casino in Shelbyville and continues Saturday morning.
Police say the cars were likely purchased by Clarence DeBerry of Indianapolis, who was arrested in 2006 on charges of selling five pounds of marijuana to an undercover officer. DeBerry died in prison last year.
Authorities estimate the auction will bring in about $500,000, much of it to be split between the Indiana State Police and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Brent Fuchs of the Indy Motor Car Auction Group says one car, a 1963 Ford Thunderbird convertible, is in pristine condition and could fetch $45,000.
