“Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.” -— Exodus 2:1-4
As Christians, we face many challenges in life. However, one thing we are encouraged to do is have faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Faith is what brings the things God has provided for us from the spiritual realm into the physical realm. Our faith is the victory that enables us to overcome the world. Everything that God does for us is accessed through faith.
A leap of faith comes when we believe like the Levite woman. In that very moment when we do not see anything, we are encouraged through this example to accept the challenge of faith. And we also find in this story that the Levite woman faced the challenge of determination. Her leap of faith challenged her to find a solution, because she was determined to save her child.
In order to save her child, she had to “let him go.”
So she took a basket, coated it with tar, put the baby inside the basket and then placed it among the weeds in the river. Then believing that God would keep her little baby safe inside that basket, she launched into a leap of faith.
What challenge or situation are you facing?
Maybe you are going through an illness, you lost your job, children are having trouble at school or you are in a situation so difficult and deep that you do not know which way to go. Be like the Levite woman and plunge into a leap of faith.
The metaphor of being inside of a basket is like being under the covering of God. It’s like having the presence of God hovering over each of our lives. The basket represents the salvation of God. All we have to do is trust and obey God’s promises and take that leap of faith.
So seek and yearn for God’s presence in the midst of our problems, knowing that God has not forgotten us. Our God will never leave us or forsake. It’s time to take a leap of faith!
