Jazz Fellowship Awards finalist Aaron Diehl pays homage to the jazz tradition during a recent performance at the Jazz Kitchen. The award is given after a seven-month long competition where top jazz pianists, ages 18 to 30, compete for one of the largest jazz prizes in the world. Each finalist performs with a trio.
Diehl uses distinctive presentations of the music by legends such as Scott Joplin, āJelly Rollā Morton and Duke Ellington, while establishing his own sound. He was well received by the standing room only crowd.
