Tressie McMillan Cottom, assistant professor of sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University and faculty associate with Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, will deliver the annual Brahos Political Science Lecture, “College for Baby Mommas: Race, Class, Gender and College in the New Economy,” on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Pharmacy Building Room 150 on the campus of Butler University.
Admission is free and open to the public.
McMillan Cottom’s talk will explore issues surrounding the ethical practices of for-profit institutions when it comes to poor students as well as those of color.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the Celebration of Diversity Distinguished Lecture Series.
McMillan Cottom is the author of Lower Ed: The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges in the New Economy. She is also co-editor of two academic books, Digital Sociologies and For Profit U.
