State passes 1 million mark in digital outreach program

The State of Indiana and GovDelivery announced that Indiana is the first state government to accumulate 1 million active subscribers receiving digital updates with GovDelivery Digital Communication Management (DCM).

GovDelivery DCM is used by more than 450 government organizations to reach more people, automate communication, save money, and improve results by allowing the public to sign up for and receive updates on specific topics, including road closures, health and safety news, and veteran’s affairs through email and other digital channels such as social media and SMS.

In 2008, Indiana became a nationwide leader when it was the first state to rollout a comprehensive digital outreach program using GovDelivery DCM, which delivers an enterprise communication model.

“Our ability to connect directly with 1 million people through digital communication is a result of our long term commitment to cutting edge technology and to communicating in an open and efficient way with the public,” said Robert Paglia, director of IN.Gov.

Over the last three years, Indiana has reported measurable results through its improved digital communication strategy such as:

  • Effectiveness in reaching the public with a 20.8 percent penetration in the adult population of Indiana (age 18 and up) and more than 1,600 customized subscription topics that constituents can choose from to get the critical information that matters to them.
  • Efficiency in communicating directly and increasing awareness of programs to Indiana residents with over 1 million email and SMS messages going out monthly.
  • Engagement in creating value for the state and the public by improving transparency and reducing administrative costs and efforts around mail, printing, and postage to see a positive return on investment of $200,000 to $250,000 within six months of initial implementation.
