Author, historian to discuss nature of religion at virtual event

Author and religious studies scholar Elaine Pagels will discuss the nature of religion during a virtual Spirit & Place event at 6:30 p.m. April 16.

Pagels, a professor of religion at Princeton University, studies the origins of Western religious traditions and how they shape people’s understanding of themselves.

Pagels is the author of books such as “The Gnostic Gospels,” “Adam, Eve, and the Serpent,” and “The Origin of Satan: How Christians Demonized Jews, Pagans, and Heretics.”

Maria E. Hamilton Abegunde will moderate the discussion. Abegunde is a poet and ancestral priest in the Yoruba Orisa tradition.
