Daughters of American Colonists new member

The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists announced the acceptance of a new member in Tennessee, Patsy White Ellis of Knoxville.

Ellis joined the Knoxville chapter after proving her ancestor, Caleb Calloway of North Carolina. Patsy will serve as Insignia Committee Chairman of her chapter for the 2009-2012 term.

The Daughters of American Colonists is a hereditary organization whose object is patriotic, historical and educational. By researching, recording and publishing the history and deeds of American colonists, DAC honors those men and women who were actual residents of North America prior to July 4, 1976, and who served in one or more of 26 capacities.

There are nine chapters of DAC located across Tennessee – Johnson City, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Brentwood, Springfield, Jackson and Memphis.

Military news

n Army National Guard Capt. Matthew S. Fischer arrived at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in Indiana as a member of the 38th Infantry Division’s Task Force Cyclone to complete mobilization training for a future deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 38th Infantry Division is an Army National Guard division based in Indianapolis.

Fischer is an operations officer with 13 years of military service. He graduated in 1995 from Karns High School in Knoxville and earned a master’s degree in 2009 from Naval Post Graduate, Monterey, Calif.
