Dwight Cliff Sr. started Cliffs Construction, LLC, in 1995.
His goal was, and is, to help families get spaces they can be proud of. These spaces will inspire people, connect families and dramatically improve the quality of their clients’ lives.
He and his son, Dwight Cliff Jr. have done just that for more than 100 families around Indianapolis. The family-owned business is based out of Haughville.
“Having a construction business is something I always wanted,” Cliff Sr. said. “When the electronics company I was working for in the late 80s went out of business, I knew it was my time to make a move. I was already doing repaid and carpentry work on the side of the family who had rental properties.”
From a young age, Cliff Sr. was always fascinated with how houses were put together. When he saw what a hammer and nails could do, he wanted to do it. He likes seeing old stuff turned into something new.
“The most enjoyment for me comes from the big reveal and seeing how happy people are with their new space,” he said.
Cliff Sr. grew his construction company organically. They transitioned from repair work to small remodels, and now they build full structures.
Aside from Indianapolis, Cliff Construction, LLC serves the Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Brownsburg, Avon and Lawrence communities with premiere kitchen, bathroom, basement and whole home remodels, home additions and garages.
It continued to grow after Cliff Jr. joined the family business with this father. Now they are expanding to more than just construction. They want to make a difference in their community.
This summer in Haughville, they are building two new affordable quality homes in partnership with the Westside Community Development Corporation.
These homes are built like market rate homes and have the same quality but will be sold at 80% of the area median income.
As people who grew up in Haughville, they intentionally purchased their office building there to be a part of the community fabric and also help stabilize the neighborhood with quality business,” Cliff Jr. said.
“What also makes us unique is that we are all about educating our clients. Most times homeowners are not construction savvy and do not understand how structures are built. It’s a big investment so we teach through the construction process.”
They post content on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and their website explaining to homeowners what to look for in certain remodeling situations or the process on a certain project.
By educating homeowners and clients, they build trust, and Cliff Sr. is happy to learn all the new ways his son is teaching him.
“I love that my son decided to come work with me in the business,” Cliff Sr. said. “I always wanted to pass down my knowledge of construction to my kids. It makes me happy that he joined, and I am a proud daddy.”
