Indy Reads Books opens

More by this author

Indy Reads Books, 911 Mass. Ave., will officially open at 11 a.m. on July 13. Guests can feel free to come around 10 a.m. for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new store will also welcome No. 1 New York Times bestselling young adult author John Green for a speaking and book signing event at 5 p.m. as the first in a series of readings and events to celebrate the store’s opening.

Green is the author of the novels Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns, An Abundance of Katherines and most recently The Fault in Our Stars, which Time magazine described as “damn near genius.”

The novel has gone on to be No. 1 on both the New York Times’ and the Wall Street Journal’s bestseller lists, and the movie rights have been optioned by Fox 2000.

Green will be the first author to speak at Indy Reads Books, the first bookstore of its kind in Indianapolis, and the only bookstore located in the heart of downtown. Indy Reads Books operates as a program benefitting the nonprofit literacy work of Indy Reads. Much like its parent group, the bookstore relies on a primarily volunteer staff, and continually accepts book donations to supply its inventory.

All proceeds raised by the bookstore support the goal of Indy Reads to make Indianapolis 100 percent literate, through its use of trained volunteers to provide free basic reading, writing, and life-skill instruction through one-on-one tutoring, small group sessions, English as a Second Language instruction, and the literacy lab program at neighborhood centers.
