
The Character in Action Scouting Awards Dinner is held each year to recognize outstanding citizens and community leaders from throughout central Indiana.
The event, which is generally held in the spring/summer, helps to generate exposure and raise funds for central Indiana Scouting programs.
This year, Carolene Mays will be awarded along with other awardees including Gov. Eric Holcomb, First Lady Janet Holcomb and Matthew Best with Eli Lilly and Company.

The 40th Annual Character in Action Awards Dinner is Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the JW Marriott Indianapolis, 10 S. West St., Indianapolis.
The ceremony features a private reception from 5:30-6:45 p.m. (for honorees, major sponsors, board members and staff). The Program & Dinner is from 7-9 p.m.
Boy Scouts of America’s mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
The Council Character in Action Awards Dinner is an annual fundraising event designed to help support the operations of the Crossroads of America Council (CAC), Boy Scouts of America, which serves more than 16,000 youth across 26 counties in central Indiana.
The CAC hopes to raise $300,000 from the 2024 awards dinner.
This event generates 14% of the local council’s total special event net support, making it the CAC’s most significant award-based fundraising event in central Indiana and paying tribute to internal and external citizens making local communities a better place.
