The showdown will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 3 p.m.
āAfter a year hiatus, we are excited to announce HBCU football is coming back to Lucas Oil Stadium. Bringing these Division One storied football teams, representing the MEAC and SWAC conferences with a great alumni base and incredible marching bands is a great opportunity to showcase the best of the best HBCUs to the Midwestā, said Alice Watson, IBE President & CEO.
The last time the Delta Devils participated in the Classic was during the first Circle City Classic in 1984 . This will be the second time the Eagles make an appearance at the Classic after defeating South Carolina State in 2012. Dr Louis āSkipā Perking, NCCU Director of Athletics said in a press release that the team is āthrilledā to be returning to Indianapolis and is looking forward to reuniting with alumni and fans in the Midwest region.
“It is an honor to be one of the first teams to compete in the Circle City Classic and to be selected again after a 38-year hiatus and a great way to begin the celebration of 70 Years of Football at Mississippi Valley State University,” said Director of Athletics Hakim McClellan.Ā
History continues with the āextremely popular and excitingā halftime show, featuring a āBattle of the Bandsā between NCCU Sound Machine Marching Band and MVSU Mean Green Marching Machine.
