May 3 marked the grand opening of Cook Medical’s new medical manufacturing facility on the city’s east side. The facility, near the corner of 38th Street and Sheridan Avenue, was built by minority vendors and will employ approximately 100 northeast side Indianapolis Neighborhood residents.
Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana will manage the day-to-day operations, and the Central Indiana Community Foundation will own the facility. This allows excess funds to be used for community development as well. Goodwill will provide employees with services such as mental and physical health support, substance abuse support, skills training, house stabilization and education, allowing employees to earn anything from a high school diploma to a master’s degree.
