Free health gathering to be Sept. 10 at Martin University

More by this author

Northeastside residents are invited and encouraged to join in a Neighborhood Health Gathering to share, learn and unite for better health care in their neighborhoods.

The gathering is a free event and will be held Sept. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gathertorium of the Martin University Education Center, 2171 Avondale Place. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided for each participant.

Leaders of the Neighborhood Health Gathering want to hear from northeast Indianapolis residents how they can stay healthy, how they deal with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, stroke, or teen addictions, and discuss with residents how to improve relationships with caring professionals working within a complex, often impersonal, health care system.

Free, safe and convenient parking will be provided in the east parking lot located near the globe sculpture at Martin University.

According to Ron Gibson, a former City-County Councilman and current president of Devington Communities Association, “This gathering gives us the opportunity to ensure that health issues and concerns are addressed for the betterment of our communities.”

Dr. Virginia Caine, head of the Marion County Health Department, will be the lead speaker at the gathering.

Those who wish to participate should contact the Neighborhood Health Gathering planning team by Sept. 6 by calling (317) 379-2722 or by email at bhikelly@yahoo.com to reserve their spot at the event.

For more information, contact Les Zwirn, director of Better Healthcare for Indiana at (317) 283-3986.
