Harris, Ferrell selected for McDonald’s All American Game

Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern and Yogi Ferrell of Park Tudor joined the ranks of high school basketball’s elite last week with their selection to the 2012 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Boys Team. Announcement of their selection came during a Feb. 9 Selection Show on ESPNU.

Harris and Ferrell will join 22 other top male prep players throughout the country. The final team rosters are available at www.mcdaag.com.

Of the nearly 600 nominees announced, seven players hailed from the greater Indianapolis area:

  • Austin Burgett of Avon High School
  • Kellen Dunham of Pendleton Heights High School
  • Kevin Ferrell of Park Tudor High School
  • Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern High School
  • Jeremy Hollowell of Lawrence Central High School
  • Ronnie Johnson of North Central High School
  • Ronald Patterson of Broad Ripple High School

McDonald’s selected the first McDonald’s All American High School Team in 1977. In 1978, the inaugural McDonald’s All American Game was played at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Since then, more than 800 male players have competed in the McDonald’s All American Games, forming an elite list of basketball stars.

This year, in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the first Boys Team, the McDonald’s All American Games unveiled its list of 35 of the Greatest McDonald’s All Americans. The list is comprised of some of the top names in basketball history, and features past and present Olympics, NBA and NCAA stars including: Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Derrick Rose.
