Indiana Black Expo announced today that the Cabaret for the 30th
Anniversary Circle City Classic® Weekend will feature the return by popular
demand of Charlie Wilson 2013 recipient of Lifetime Achievement honors
from both the Trumpet Awards Foundation and Black Entertainment Television (BET). The Classic Cabaret is held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at
the Indiana Convention Center on the eve of the game.
"The consensus of the sellout crowd at last year's cabaret was that Charlie
Wilson's performance ranked one of the best ever in the three decades of
classic," said IBE President and CEO Tanya Bell. "Our thoughts immediately
went to checking his availability for our milestone 30th year celebration.
With all his accolades since, that was anything but a sure thing."
In addition to the BET distinction, Wilson scored another hit with his
sparkling ballad released earlier this year, "My Love is All I Have" and the
romance anthem chart-topper "You Are" which hung around the top of the
Billboard hit list for 15 weeks in 2012. After a career with the Gap Band
that alone would have established a highly-successful career in the
industry, Wilson is now in the throes of his fourth hit solo album.
"He is in demand," Bell noted. "But fortunately, he enjoyed the experience
at the Classic Cabaret last year as much as the nearly 5,000 people who
rocked to his music and non-stop onstage electricity. So he will be at
center stage accenting our 30th year."
Tickets for the 30th Anniversary Classic Cabaret go on sale Friday, August
2nd. The 30th Annual Circle City Classic® will feature Alcorn State
University against Grambling State University which played in the very
first classic in '84. Tickets are already on sale for the battle of
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) giants which both boasts
bands that rank among the top in the nation. The game will be played
Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
