Last ‘original’ Pentecostal preacher coming

This week several exciting speakers, including a 103-year-old minister who witnessed the historic Azusa Street revival, are expected to arrive in Indianapolis during the Glory-to-Glory Conference.

The annual revival features a variety of national and local ministers. It is presented by Cathedral of Praise Bible Church of God in Christ.

“We have been really looking forward to this conference, and we believe it will be the best one we have ever had,” said Bishop Edgar L. Allen, pastor of Cathedral of Praise. “This time we are offering something that participants of all ages will enjoy.”

Guest speakers for services this week have included Suffragan Bishop Donald Golder, Bishop Larry D. Grinstead of Puritan Missionary Baptist Church and Suffragan Bishop C. Shawn Tyson of Calvary International Ministries.

Services on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12, are featuring Bishop Otis G. Clark, along with Dr. Gwyneth and Star Williams.

Clark, 107, is a pastor at Life Enrichment Ministries in Federal Way, Wash., which is located near Seattle. According to friends and supporters, he is the world’s oldest traveling evangelist.

He was born in Oklahoma four years before it became a state, and survived such historical events as the brutal 1921 race riot in Tulsa, the Great Depression and witnessed the 1933 World Fair in Chicago, which debuted on television.

Clark knew the founders of the historic Azusa Street Revival that began in Los Angeles in 1906 and launched the national Pentecostal movement. Before the Azusa Street Mission building was torn down, Clark was given the original documents for it, which he still has. He also assisted Charles Mason, founder of the Church of God in Christ denomination.

In a recent interview, Clark said there is no “secret” to longevity, and advised people “to stay on God’s side and be winners. “You’ll be satisfied, and afraid of nothing.”

Clark still lives independently and takes no medication. He will be joined by Dr. Gwyneth Williams and her daughter, Star.

Gwyneth Williams, who received her secondary education at Martin University in Indianapolis and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, also serves as a pastor at Life Enrichment Ministries. Star Williams, 30, was the 2003 Miss Oklahoma and speaks frequently about how young adults and teens can maintain a Christian lifestyle.

Music will be provided on Friday by award-winning music director, Matilda A. Haywood.

All services this week will be held at 7 p.m. For more information call (317) 925-2014 or send an email to plater@sbcglobal.net.
