Empowering minority businesses through community and collaboration

As the CEO of Living in the Moment Events, I’ve always believed in the power of community and connection. That belief is at the heart of the Indy Business Shower, an event I’m thrilled to host, designed to uplift minority-owned small businesses and entrepreneurs. This event is more than just a gathering—it’s a platform to foster collaboration, education, and opportunity for businesses that have often been overlooked or underserved.

When I first started my business, I faced significant hurdles. Like many minority entrepreneurs, I lacked the mentorship, resources and networks that can make all the difference in scaling a business. I had to navigate everything on my own, learning through trial and error. This experience instilled in me a deep desire to ensure other business owners wouldn’t have to struggle alone like I did. When I opened my event space, I knew right away I wanted to offer it to the community for exactly this purpose—to bring people together, build connections, and support the growth of small businesses.

One of the biggest challenges minority-owned businesses face is access to investors, mentors, customers and opportunities. Often, we don’t have the same networks or pathways into the rooms where decisions are made. I like to think of myself as a connector, bringing people together who might not otherwise cross paths. Indy Business Shower aims to provide just that — a space where small business owners can meet potential partners, investors, and mentors.

Collaboration is one of the most powerful tools we have. There’s an undeniable strength in sharing knowledge and experiences. Entrepreneurs can learn so much from each other. My goal is to create a collaborative environment where ideas flow freely and where people leave with new connections and perspectives that can help them move forward.

As business owners, we need more than just passion to succeed. We need practical skills, tools, and resources. The Indy Business Shower will offer access to workshops, panels, and discussions that provide key business insights and strategies. Whether it’s learning about marketing, financial planning, or scaling operations, these resources are vital for small businesses looking to grow. Education and skill development are cornerstones of this event, because when business owners are equipped with the right knowledge, they are more likely to thrive.

Visibility is another critical component for minority businesses. Too often, small businesses struggle to get their products or services in front of the right audience. The Indy Business Shower provides a platform where startups and small businesses can showcase their work to a wider audience—potentially opening doors to new customers and partnerships.

Moreover, financial support is key to scaling any business. By connecting business owners with investors and financial institutions, we’re creating real opportunities for growth. Access to capital is often a significant barrier for minority businesses, and it’s time to break down those barriers by giving entrepreneurs direct access to the funding and resources they need.

At the heart of the Indy Business Shower is the goal to build a stronger local business community. Entrepreneurship isn’t just about individual success—it’s about creating jobs, driving innovation, and contributing to the economy. By supporting each other, we can strengthen our community as a whole. The relationships formed at this event can lead to long-lasting partnerships and collaborations that benefit everyone involved.

This event is about more than just providing resources; it’s about creating a space where minority business owners feel seen, heard, and supported. It’s about acknowledging the unique challenges we face and creating pathways to overcome them. My desire to host this event comes from my passion for community building—especially for those who look like me and who need the same support and opportunities I once lacked.

I’ve seen firsthand the power of mentorship and collaboration and I know how transformative it can be. When entrepreneurs come together to share knowledge, ideas and resources, the impact is breathtaking. The Indy Business Shower is an opportunity to do just that—to make an impact, boost entrepreneurship, and contribute to the growth of our local economy.

I’m proud of the impact I’ve been able to make in my community so far, and with the Indy Business Shower, I hope to inspire and empower even more entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams. Let’s build something great, together.
