An Indianapolis company reached a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over allegedly failing to submit required reports, according to a press release. Heritage-Crystal LLC, located at 3970 W Tenth St. near Speedway, paid $38,221 in penalties and replaced lead-contaminated windows at residential homes in Indianapolis.āÆĀ
The EPA alleges the manufacturer violated the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act by failing to submit annual reports for toxic chemicals it manufactured, processed or used in quantities above reporting thresholds.
Additionally, the company failed to submit timely reports and retain documentation for several chemicals, including lead and nickel compounds.āÆĀ
The company also replaced 129 windows suspected to have lead-based paint hazards in neighborhoods with environmental justice concerns.āÆ
Moreover, the EPA identified the area where Heritage-Crystalās facility is as having potentially high pollution and socioeconomic burdens.āÆĀ
“We must ensure that facilities are complying with required annual reporting of what chemicals they use and what they are releasing into the environment,” said EPA Region 5 Administrator Debra Shore. “People have a right to know about any toxic chemicals in their communities, especially those that are already overburdened by pollution.āĀ
