The sixth play in Wilson’s 10-part “Pittsburgh Cycle,” “Fences” is set in the 1950s and explores the African American experience, racism and relationships through Troy Maxson and his family. The play debuted in 1985 and was called Wilson’s “most popular” work by The New York Times. In 1987, “Fences” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play.
The local performance, a partnership between Phalen Cultural Center and Mas Media 7 Production, will feature Darryl Crockett, Rose Marie Simmons, Ryan Robinson, Nathaniel Tate, Noah Holcomb, Jonathan Floyd Moore and Makayla Evans. Director is Mark Spencer.
